The Terror by Dan Simmons
Book - First Time Read
As one of my best friends had said: "The masculine urge to find someplace stupid to die slowly."
It has been a while since I read a book this long. I do enjoy reading and don't mind a long book. I am just often very lazy.
The length of this book and the pace of this story can be daunting, challenging, grueling... and that is an absolute compliment to the book. I mean this with 100% sincerity. You feel like you are on those ships, with those sailors, in the cold. Hoping that you will have a happy ending...
This book was heartbreaking. I kept thinking "Oh I hope they make it out alive!" Before the crushing reality hit me and I remember... I know what happened in real life...
Overall, I fucking loved this book. The story is so excellently written. The characters, or well most of the characters (I'm looking at you the fucking little rat man), are so lovable. And the overall execution of this novel was superb.
